The process will sharpen your skills in breaking down complex tasks and developing informed judgements on critical issues.

Qualifier Task: Select a problem and intervention

Recommended time: 2 hours

The world’s most formidable problems require immense amounts of time, money, and intellect to solve. With finite resources at our disposal, it’s crucial to prioritise which problems and interventions to invest these in.

There are fifteen interventions in this longlist. Each aims to address a high-priority cause area that impacts humanity at large.

  1. Select five interventions from the list. You may also choose to add 1 intervention of your own and choose 4 from the list.
  2. Create a Weighted Factor Model (WFM) spreadsheet comparing your five chosen interventions. Your aim is to figure out which intervention would be most promising for you to work on. Make sure to use at least five (and up to 7) decision-making criteria in your comparison. Here are some examples of criteria you might want to consider:
